  • Brennan: if you wanna get, start a business with Cosplay as a background. If you can sell and create costumes, sell costumes. If you can make props like design props 3D pair and paint them. If you're good at wigs, you can style wigs at Zelda. I feel like people always think like, oh, cosplay, I'm gonna go as this character, but like. The creating of it is, I feel like an option that a lot of people don't think about.

Jules: Hi everyone. Welcome to Vegas unscripted, and you're probably thinking, what the fuck is Vegas unscripted? Well, Vegas unscripted is a segment off of Jules Unscripted, where I talk to Vegas locals. And this could be Vegas influencers, Vegas, uh, creators.

Vegas business owners, small business owners of the, like that really embody Las Vegas, and it's more community building for Las Vegas as well. Today I have Brennan here with me, and Brennan is the owner of Las Vegas character parties, which is really cool.

And what that is, it's a. Company that does character parties in Las Vegas. So if you want to have like a [00:01:00] Disney Princess show up at your party or a fun superhero show up at your party. Brendan is the one that you would go to to have that kind of fun surprise element. I am so excited for you to be on the podcast.

Thank you so much for coming on and sharing your journey and who, like how you got into this company and just like. Everything in general about it.

Brennan: Yeah, of course. I'm excited to be hearing to chat about it and yeah. Yay. Whatever you need to know. I'm ready.

Jules (2): Thank you. Yes. 'cause I wanna know it all. Like Yeah, I, when you told me that, , you did a Las Vegas character party mm-hmm.

I was like, that's really cool. And then I was talking to our mutual friend Sean, and he was kinda like explaining a little bit more about it and that it's like you have costumes and you go out and go to parties and you dress up to cosplaying . So I reached out to you for my niece's party. Mm-hmm.

, She turned four recently. Yeah. And we got an Elsa to come by, which is really fricking cool. Like, she was so good. She was like the embodiment of Elsa, which is really fun. [00:02:00] And everyone loved her. My niece was like, Elsa's here, like it was the best. And I showed you photos, like, yeah, I love the photos.

Supposed to be, so it's really fun. And I just wanna get to know deeper about like how you came into it, where you're gonna go with it. If you do it yourself, like that kind of thing, so yeah.

    Oh my. Yeah.

Jules (2): Sounds good. So I wanna start off with a fun question, and that is, what is your, like earliest cosplay memory that you could remember?

    So, earliest

Brennan: cosplay. I feel like I've, it's tough because I've always been dressing up. I always like to dress up, so I, whether it be like Halloween or I always have a theme birthday since as long as I can remember. , I feel like the first, like one that I really made. Myself and kind of like it was like.

Felt like a real, like cosplay. Mm-hmm. I did. It was for Halloween and it was a Mary Poppins and my partner at the time, I made his Burt costume.

And so we did Mary Poppins and Burt and it was so fun. I spent like a long time creating it and we took pictures of him for Halloween and it was a lot of, yeah.

That was the [00:03:00] first one. And I don't know when that was exactly. Probably very early twenties. But that one actually, I posted photos on my Facebook and a friend of a friend saw them and reached out to me to see if I would do their kids' birthday party. So it's actually the first. Party and did Wow.

It was Mary Poppins and so like, that was before I had a business or anything, but yeah, I don't, it was somewhere very early twenties. Yeah. And yeah, it was my Mary Poppins and Bert. Oh. It was a lot of fun. That's

Jules (2): so cool. You have to show me or send me that photo so I could put it up there like so, like Oh yeah.

Yeah. Yes, I would love to see it. 'cause I think that's like such a pivotal moment mm-hmm. In your career where it's like you're just doing this for fun. Little did you know that Right. That photo led you to where you are now? Yeah. , Oh, there's that trend on TikTok where it's like, what's that one little moment that like jumpstart your life and like turns it into a whole different perspective? I'm trying to remember it. I'm not

Brennan: on TikTok. I feel know what you're talking about. 'cause you see them on like reels on like Yeah, yeah, yeah.

    Facebook as well.

    Jules (2): Yeah.

Brennan: So, um, I need to get on TikTok for, for my [00:04:00] business as well. I just, I don't personally use it, so I'm like, I need to get my. Company out there, which I haven't yet, 'cause it's just something that I don't use. So it's kind of unknown to me, but No, it's okay. But it's know, we're talking about, it's something like little like, it's like, so she didn't know that this moment would change her life forever.

    Kind. Yes. That one or,

Jules (2): yes. Oh, butterfly Effect. That's what it is. Okay. So like there's this movie called The Butterfly Effect with Ashton Kutcher, and it's where he like tries to go back in time and like changes like moments mm-hmm. To like change the timeline. And so there's like that trend on TikTok where it's like. The butterfly effect when I did this thing, like if I went to this party, I would've never met like my boyfriend or Right. If I didn't go to, if I didn't jump on this train, I would've never like. Met some people or like, if I never took this job, I never would be where I am. So like for you? Mm-hmm. If I've never posted that, , that photo mm-hmm.

Then I never would be where I'm at. Yeah. So it's kinda like that.

Brennan: Yeah. The scenario. I  never even like thought about that, but it's true. It was just a little thing.

Jules (2): So after that, have you been just doing [00:05:00] college planning, like more often and like, uh, regularly? Or was it more for like, again, like pawing parties and stuff like that?

Brennan: It kept, it just kept being like more just like for special events. Mm-hmm. , I always love to do it, but I, I didn't have , regular ones I did, but I mean, Halloween and my birthday is twice a year, so that's usually, that's pretty regular, I guess. So I would usually do like at least one or two per year.

I didn't go to a ton of like conventions and stuff. I would go here and there, but it was mostly just like. For fun. Yeah. For me.. And so, yeah, I kind of just, yeah. Kept going with those. But a couple a year I felt like was planning. 'cause I would take a lot of time to work on them.

. And then, , think of a new idea and then start the next one. So mostly just for fun.

Jules (2): Okay. Yeah. So after that first initial cosplay mm-hmm. What would you say is like your favorite cosplay that you've done since then? I

Brennan: think my, I think my favorite is Timney and Chanter. Okay. From, , Mon Python.

Jules (2): Okay. Very cool. Yeah, I love that

Brennan: one. I've done it. I've known him a few times. , I just, I love Mon Python. I love Holy Grail. So, [00:06:00] and it's so fun 'cause he's just like, he's not cute at all. He's a old crazy bear. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I just like. He's so fun. I love it. So I've like repeated that, that caly.

    'cause he's so much fun.

Jules (2): Yes. And it's so funny 'cause it's like you don't expect someone to like dress up as like mm-hmm. A crazy looking person. You know? It's always like you've seen those girls that are dressed up as like the. Pretty , risque kind of cosmetics. Yeah. Which are really fun.

Beautiful. I'm like, oh my God. But then, yeah, I like, I love those too. Yeah. Yeah. But then it's like the total opposite when you dress up as like, like, um, I forget his name, but like, yeah. That guy that you're talking about. Mm-hmm. Definitely sent me that photo too, so I'll, yeah. Um, but yeah, that's. That's really fun.

Brennan: I also did another one similar that, which accidentally ended up being a little more mm-hmm. Sassy, I guess. I did ATU from Zoolander. Oh, okay. And I was thinking like, oh, I'm just gonna be Atu. Like not, not trying to make it be like, yeah, anything sexy at all. But he wears like a black corset and I was like, oh, black corset.

I put it on and [00:07:00] like not thinking that like my corset is gonna like make it more like, oh yeah. But I actually kind of really loved that it was my got too, but like. With this like tight corset. I was just like, oh, I got to like, it was fun. So

Jules (2): would you call that kind of like gender bend cosplay? Yeah, it would.

    'cause I

Brennan: have facial hair and everything.

Jules (2): That is amazing. Yeah. I love that. I love when you like fully go hard because I know for me, I didn't like, one of my very first cosplays that I ever did was a Sherlock home, but a F version. Oh, I

    Brennan: love that.

Jules (2): Yeah. Yeah. And so I like had the colors and everything. Yeah.

And I had like my hair, like, I'll show you a photo of it. Oh yeah. . And it was in college. And then I just was kind of told like, you need to like study and like focus more on that and like not do cosplaying too much. I'm like, okay. So that was like one of the very first times I did that, aside from yeah.

Halloween and Right. And birthday parties and stuff like that. Yeah. That's fun. It was really fun. I just show you the photos too. Yeah, I love that. I do like the gender bend cosplays because they like the creativity [00:08:00] that people come out. Mm-hmm. Or the ones where people do, . Crossover Cosplays. Like my favorite is Sailor Moon and Night.

Like I love Bella. That's so fun.

Brennan: I've seen, I haven't done it, a crossover really. I've done like a pirate princess belt.

    Yeah.

Brennan: , For like the pirate Fest. So me and my, a group of other girls who worked for me, we all went, it was like pirate princesses. That's so cute. And it was so fun. Fun. A bunch of little girls come up and took our pictures.

Aw. So I've done like that, but it's not quite like too. Fando cut, like Right. I love seeing those and I would love to, I would love to do one, like actually like cross two of 'em that I really like. Yes. Thats so fun.

Jules (2): What would be your like dream crossover cosplay that you would do? Oh geez. I can't even think of, I know,

Brennan: I don't know. I feel like I really like the ones I love Disney. Mm-hmm. I love the things that do Disney and then like. This might not necess necessarily be what my would be my dream one, but it's like a Princess Rapunzel or something. , Mix it with , a storm [00:09:00] trigger or something. Like those ones that like completely different worlds.

Yes. So I feel like one of those like more fantasy and a classic Disney. . So I can't think of exactly, but like something like that I would like to do.

Jules (2): I love that. Yeah. It's funny you say Rapunzel in a storm trip or like Star Wars. Because I did see a. Rapunzel crossover for like something, I don't even know what it was.

Yeah. But it looked really cool. And then she was like Rapunzel with the long hair and the colors, but she was like kind of robotic looking. Yeah. That. So cool. And I was like, that's pretty cool. , Like the Comic-Con, like Instagram. Like page post it. I'm like, like that's really cool. That's awesome. I love when people get

    Brennan: creative like that.

    It's so fun.

Jules (2): Me too. That's one of my favorite things about, , the bar that we like to go to. , It's very creative. People dress up in cosplay all the time and it's fun seeing what people do.

Brennan: Yeah, it's so fun. Everyone's very creative. I love it. Yes,

Jules (2): me too. So what was your journey like then from being a.

Casual [00:10:00] co player into wanting to do this? Like fulltime, like were you a part of this? Like were you a part of any, , cosplaying communities beforehand or were you just kinda like it fell in your lap and you're like, I wanna do this? Like how did, how did that go from doing it casually to now fulltime?

Brennan: Yeah, so it was very much just. Came to me kind of thing. Yeah. So I just did it for fun. Went to a convention here or there. Did it for birthdays, for Halloween. And then, , I did like the Mary Poppins thing and I had posted. Then I was like, oh, I did a birthday party. It was so fun. And a girl I went to church with, and I, I've known since we were like little, she owned a character company at St.

George. . And they started getting parties out here. 'cause at the time, there weren't other character companies here.

    Mm-hmm. So

Brennan: they would travel out and she was like, Hey, would you be interested in doing. Work here. Like I never, I wasn't looking for it. Okay. I didn't think about it, but so she reached out to me and was like, do you wanna.

Perform for my company. And I was like, sure. So it just happened, like I, I [00:11:00] wasn't looking for it and I was like, I'm so glad it did because I love it. But like, yeah, I feel like it just, I wasn't looking for it and it just, and like you said, me posting that one picture got me that one party, which got her to see me doing a party.

Which had to reach out to me. Yes. So it just sort of happened.

Jules (2): Okay, cool. So when you say the Las Vegas character parties, it's more like a sister or like a, , segment off of the one in Utah? Or is it like its own separate thing? So

Brennan: She was working out there. She had the company. And moved to Vegas and changed, brought it out out here.

Jules (2): see. Okay. Okay, that makes sense. Yeah,

Brennan: so she brought it here. So for a while they were doing both.

Jules (2): Oh wow. That's a lot. And then she

Brennan: moved out here. And then ended up just in opening it here full time. Yeah. Changed the name to Las Vegas. 'cause not in Utah anymore. So, yeah. So, so it was both and then like.

Business here is so much, there's so much more. Right. So just kind of move with the, where the clients are. Yes. No,

Jules (2): that makes sense. 'cause Vegas is a very entertaining, Yes. Entertaining city. . Like if you have an, everyone wants to be in the entertainment field and [00:12:00] there's so many different like areas to do so in the Las Vegas character parties.

It's such a fun, , company because. You're a party, you like bring the party to parties. Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah. You bring cosplay to parties. Mm-hmm. You bring, , extra fun, fun things, make it a little bit more , enjoyable. Yeah. So that's really cool that she was like, okay, I wanna move it to Las Vegas.

There's more room, there's more growth. It makes sense. Mm-hmm. And the fact that she reached out to you, that's really cool too. Yeah. , When you first got into that role, were you kind of like nervous, like, I don't know what the fuck to do? Or were you like, , I need like blueprints.

Brennan: So nervous. Yeah. Like I'm very naturally kind of more shy and timid.

Yeah. I keep to myself, I was really nervous, but I was excited to do that. I was like, that sounds like so much fun. But the first, like while I was like very quiet and I was like, definitely, I. It took me a long time to like break into the character and be very big and open and control the party, control the kids, and

I was just so timid and I was so nervous. I still get nervous every time I go to a party as a [00:13:00] character, and I've been doing it for over 10 years now. Like Wow. Still I've been 12 years. Yeah. I still get nervous. Someone more than 12. This is crazy. That's

Jules (2): amazing. So pretty much a decade. Yeah.

Brennan: But yeah, so I, I was so nervous.

Like it was not, I'm a performer. I always have been, but I've always been in like a group or on stage, like away from people. Mm-hmm. And this was my first time performing intimately, like with people.

    Jules (2): Okay.

Brennan: So it was very different for me.

Jules (2): Yeah. . Bringing it back with having one of the girls , at my niece's birthday.

. It was just her, she just showed up and it was like a little, it was little, it was tiny. Like there was like little kids, like there was, , the adults were more, but the kids were smaller. Mm-hmm. And so I could definitely see how you would be a little bit intimate about like, the size of it and like who would all be there.

'cause you're probably. You're going to people's places, events where you don't know anyone.

    Brennan: Yeah.

Jules (2): , So I could see that playing into a factor as well too. Like Yeah, you're just getting started. You're just kinda like, I don't, I don't know these people. How mm-hmm. You know, will I be safe? Kind of things like that.

Right. Yeah. Did you [00:14:00] feel like you had imposter syndrome a lot then as well too?

Brennan: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, it definitely does. Like a lot of this I'm like, I did and still do, but like it's a lot better.

Mostly over, but sometimes I still feel like it. But definitely then I was just like, no, like I'm not good enough, but. I mean, like, they were happy, obviously keep around. So I'm like, okay, I wasn't that bad, I guess.

Jules (2): Yeah, no, that's, that's good. Then you kind of worked through that . And then you were like, I'm, I could get through it.

I could do it, and . Like you said, it's been 10 years now and like you still get a little nervous, but you're like, yeah. , Keep pushing forward, which is really

Brennan: cool. And I think a little nervous is healthy too. Yeah. Because it keeps you like trying to be better. Yeah. So if you, if you get too comfortable, like you wanna.

Keep, like trying to do your best, so. Mm-hmm. It is good to have a little bit of nerve.

Jules (2): Yes. Yes. , I feel like, like you were saying too, like it does help you. Work better on who you are. Like . If there's something that you, 'cause earlier today you were, , you and Jake were kinda like helping you [00:15:00] like figure some stuff out.

. And you did mention like every time someone comes in, it's like you can work on things to make it better and like change things how I want it to be. And I'm like, that's kind of what it seems like for you and how you went through it, is that you just kind of. Up molding yourself into a more confident person when it comes to doing the, cosplay?

Brennan: Yeah, I definitely did. I feel like, and I think also just. Going in, like thinking about things more and like being like open to advice and help. Yeah. It helps you kind of become better. So yeah, helping each other end up making and being willing to accepts help.

Jules (2): Yeah. Is important. I think it's so amazing that you've been doing it for 10 years.

    Yeah. It's crazy.

Brennan: , I'm like looking at, I'm like, okay, when do I stop scheduling myself as a character? I know when, when I'm like, I'm getting a little older now. I like. At some point become the fairy godmother in

Jules (2): the background. Oh, I was gonna ask because you did wanna do, , Elsa for my niece?

    Yeah.[00:16:00]

The people for the specific jobs, because when you go on your website , there's many different characters you could choose from. There's many different sizes of parties you could choose from. . And just like a lot of little details that you require an ask. Yeah. So when it comes to selecting a person Yeah.

How do you do that with, , all the people that you have on your team?

Brennan: Yeah. , That's a good question. When I, 'cause I worked for this company and then I ended up taking over. So I had some people who had already worked there. . I've hired a lot of new people.

    Mm-hmm.

Brennan: And I actually, like, I haven't had to like too hard because I've had a lot of people kind of ask me or somebody knows somebody and they're like, oh, I wanna work for you.

    No

    too.

Brennan: So like, I haven't really had to reach out too much. But, , what I look for, and I have, there's been sometimes where I'm looking for a certain kind of person. . I actually look specifically for, . Entertainers and performers and actors.

    Hmm.

Brennan: And oftentimes to, , teachers, people who live with kids.

[00:17:00] Yes. There's a lot of cosplay who come in and like, which is great and you can look great, but you need to be able to present this character. Yeah. You need to be able to work with kids and control a room and do activities. Mm-hmm. So I look for, . People who are great with kids and people who are good at acting or could take on a role.

Yeah. So that's what I do. And I've had a lot of people luckily confide me. . And a lot of that, when I did find people, it was, . Me asking what people I know, because I know a lot of performers. So it's like, hey, like who do you guys know who might be interested? And just through doing that in the small Vegas community theater group

    Jules (2):

Brennan: was able to find like just great people. So.

Jules (2): Okay. Yeah. That's amazing. Yeah. Because I would assume for a role like that you, you have to have some acting ability. You have to be able to be good with kids. Yeah. And I like that I say teachers too, because teachers. , They work with like 15 something kids.

Yeah. And at parties there could be like 15 something kids. Yeah. It's perfect. And

Brennan: even like, someone could have the acting ability, but then they try to get like, and like I'm happy with either I can teach somebody, [00:18:00] coach them into being better at playing the role. Or I can take somebody who can play a role and coach them into, , controlling a party.

Right. And working with the kids. Yeah. But I have, I have teachers, , on my staff who are just. So great. They're so good with the kids and they do such a good job. So like teachers have been like a really, really good, um. Way to repeat that. Performers.

Jules (2): Okay. That's, that's really cool. I like that. Yeah. , And also too, I feel like teachers have a specific embodiment towards them.

, They just have a different like, kind of like aura, like they love being around kids. Yeah. Because I know a lot of times some people don't like being around kids. Yeah. Even if they might love cosplaying and acting right, they might not be like, oh, like yeah, I'm

Brennan: okay Uhhuh. And that is a big thing.

I feel like if I did something which I would like to future, like put on like more kind of a stage type of. Show presence, that would be maybe someone who, there'd be different types of people than who would work at parties. Right. You know, there's people who could perform on stage and people who perform at a party and intimately.

    Mm-hmm. So, yeah.

Jules (2): Do you think that, , this is just like a kind of a side [00:19:00] question. Mm-hmm. Do you think that the law's biggest character parties would do more stage performances? In the future I would like

Brennan: to, , put on more like large events. Yeah. , Which would be, . Something within the next few years, I will start looking at maybe one or two years I'll start trying to add on more.

, But I would like to do something that was like a bigger show and people can paint for ticket. . And then maybe at the end of a quick little meet and greet. Yeah. So that's something that I do have in mind. I would like to do that. That would be somebody who's. More of the actor Right. Be doing that.

They would memorize a role, you know? Yes. Rather than getting in there and, , mingling and entertaining. Yeah.

Jules (2): Yeah. No, that, that would be really fun. 'cause I was just thinking about that too. I was like, oh, that'd be really cool if you like, had as like. Vegas character parties, but a concert or like a, or like play or something.

Yeah. People could go and see it and like meet all like different characters mm-hmm. All at once. And so like little separate right here and there. , It's also a cool thing to expand.

    Brennan: Yeah.

    Jules (2): I know.

Brennan: That's something like, so I'm, this is, I'm in the last year of paying off my business loan right now. , [00:20:00] I've owned the company for four years.

. And then by the end of this year, it'll be paid off and like my. Plan was, I have a bunch of ideas and that's one of 'em. My plan was just to keep it alive and running or until I pay off the loan. Yes. And then once the loans paid off, I want to expand and that's one of the things I got to do.

    Jules (2): Okay.

I'm excited to see what you do once that's all taken care of. Yeah, of course. Let me see, so speaking of like events and parties, what. Events do you typically like see that are being booked? Like is it mostly like all birthday parties? Is it like, , different parties? Because I, I would assume a lot of these events are like little kids, but do you see ones that are like with older adults or like, do you see a variety of different events?

Brennan: , So mostly children's birthday parties. Yeah. Is what we do. . Overall, that is what we do. But we do get some people that hire characters for, , like a community event, , special event, convention. , If they have a booth that is like superhero themed, they want Wonder [00:21:00] Woman to be there to help promote.

I see. That's cool. So we get that too. But the biggest thing is birthday parties and, but yeah, lots of other just like general events. . We get as well. . Mostly parties, but yeah, the bigger events are also fun with the, we do one at the, , the Durango Casino.

Yeah. We have this like open restaurant called the George. So every Monday and Tuesday through the summer they have a moon day and so they have us do face painting, apple, we have a couple face painters, and then we have a character that goes with the movie. Yeah. So they get their face paint. It's usually like a themed for the movie.

. They get to meet the character from the movie and they get to watch the movie.

Jules (2): That is so cute. I love that you're doing that too. Yeah,

Brennan: and we do with few other places like that too, like the birthday parties, but also kid just children's events. Yeah. So there's a place that they have date. The place had, the venue has their own, , program that they run, but they'll hire a character as like a bonus.

So we do do parties and then a lot of just bits like that.

Jules (2): I love that. I love that you say like the, like there be a movie playing the character with like different spin stuff. It's so funny because when Elsa came over [00:22:00] too, my, , niece's birthday. . , We had the TV going on for frozen. Oh yeah. And my niece would be like, look, it's you.

Oh. , And they would like do coloring and stuff like that. Not, not. Face painting, but like they'll do coloring and they do like other fun little like activities. Yeah. And she was there with the movie playing on in the background and felt very like immersive that way. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So I love that you do that too for other kinds of events.

Brennan: It's sort of fun. Just d it's been exciting. I feel like we've been getting more different kinds of events recently. Yeah. So I've been getting like, the, getting jobs from like corporations and stuff more recently. So it is been fun to kind of branch that out.

    And expand.

Jules (2): Well, when you say is the most memorable event that you've

    Brennan: done.

So this one would have to be, this was a few years ago, but it's still my favorite. , There's a YouTuber, he has like. A billion followers or something. Is it, his name is Dylan something.

And he has like, kind of like, there's like a group of like. Young adults that have like a channel kind of together, but then they each have their own. . But yeah, so his manager reached out and he's like, Hey, [00:23:00] this, , person's doing, , on his channel, he's going to every single Gordon Ramsey restaurant.

Oh, okay. And recording all of them. And he's trying to get Gordon Ramsey's attention. Yeah. So we're going to Vegas, and for Vegas, he wants to like run into characters along the way and bring them to dinner. That's cute. So they had, they hired us to go to, . Steak is, that was called in Gordon Steakhouse.

Steakhouse one in the Paris. It's just called Quarter Steak, probably. I think it's just called steak and it's really nice and expensive. And they had, , Spider-Man Sonic and SpongeBob. That's funny. And they had their whole recording team. So we like met outside. They like pretended to like, like, here you, you with us.

And we went there. We walked in the casino and then we walked in the restaurant. It was just like all these people like go like nice looking outfit outfits and stuff. And we're just like. I was sonic walking. We went into the room, they had a private room for us. Oh fuck. And then like when we stopped recording, they let us like take off the costume.

So we're just like sitting there in like shorts and tank tops, like sweating [00:24:00] and everyone who's walking by just staring at us like, oh no. But then, and then we put 'em on when they brought the food out and we record and they let us all order a meal. But it was like really nice, really fancy that kept bringing out like.

Like a seafood tower and a chef was like a chef from Master Chef or one of those. Oh, okay. Who like won the thing. Yeah. He came out and explained it all to us and then like, I have a picture of me, his son was like pretending to eat my steak. So we, I was like, we got paid to do this. Plus we got like a free like.

$500 meal. Like yeah, it was, so that was probably my favorite one. It was definitely very memorable. Very Vegas.

Jules (2): Did you see the video when it was out? I did, yeah. Oh my gosh. Okay. I need to find it so I could like link it in the show notes so people don't like take a look at it. Oh, I wanna see it now. That team's so fun.

It was so fun. If I was you, I'd be like, this is so cool because like, I've never really been in like a, like a recording thing like that. , I've never. Had something where it's like, oh, like I'm in a [00:25:00] video for like YouTube or like tv. Right? Like, not really. So it, it's really cool to see like the behind the scenes of all that.

Yeah. So I'm sure for you that must have been like, whoa, this is like so

Brennan: surreal. Yeah. It was so fun. And I was like, when I kind of looked it up, I was like, he's like kinda like a big YouTuber, like, and I was just like. Like I, it was, I'm like, they found us like it's pretty cool. That's cool. Do you watch his stuff now or is it more geared towards like younger?

I started younger following him on Instagram. Like I don't go on YouTube that much unless I'm looking for something specific. So I followed him on Instagram though, so I still see his Instagram stuff. He was so nice. His whole crew was so nice. Like I was like, have you guys ever come back? Like, please let us know if they were great.

    Oh, it's so sweet.

Jules (2): I love that. 'cause there's a lot of times where your tumors are like. Really not the best. . And that they're kind of like rude and nasty towards like people that are their fans and you hear about it and you're just like such a good, yeah. Yeah. So it's nice that this guy, even though you've like, never really knew his content before.

Yeah. And he still kind of showed like, like a human side. Like he was nice. Yeah. He was very like. [00:26:00] Cool with you guys. Mm-hmm. Which was really fun. Yeah,

Brennan: no, it was great. And they're young too, like for me. Oh really? And so like, I feel like they're probably like 19, 20. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they're so professional and so, and I was just so impressed by them.

    Oh, that is so

Jules (2): cool. Yeah. I have to like get that video because what I send it to you. Yeah. Yes. I wanna see it. And I also wanna put it in the show where all of you guys like watching and. You know, hanging out with us or like see you too after this. So yeah, I'll send it to you for sure.

That's a really, I would totally memorize that too. Keep it like burning in my hand. The fact that there's video, it's like you can keep going back to that time. So Yeah. It was so fun. Yeah. I love that. That is so cool. I'm a little jelly.

Brennan: I know. When I was there I was really, I was like, I can't believe I'm getting paid for this.

This is ridiculous. I'm getting paid. This is so much fun.

Jules (2): You're like, I'm getting paid to be goofy and I have staying and like

Brennan: steak and seafood dinner. Great. Yeah, it was, it was

Jules (2): amazing. So did Gordon show up?

    Brennan: He

    Jules (2): did

Brennan: it, and as far as I think, I don't think he responded to the video. So it's [00:27:00] like. We were a portion of it.

Yeah. It's like a 15 minute video or so of him going to Olive. I see. And he was trying to get the attention and I looked it up later and it, I, I don't think he ever got dang minutes to recognize it. I was like, oh, well. So fine on

Jules (2): TikTok. He's on TikTok too. Maybe one day.

Brennan: Yeah. Go back and find it.

Jules (2): . So another question that I have for you is how do you manage being creative? While having a creative business, do you, are you able to separate it more? Because I know it's a full-time job. Mm-hmm. So you're probably working like 24 7.

Yeah. But do you find time to like be creative for you?

Brennan: So that's something I'm working on. Yeah. It's been tough to be honest. And that's, I, I kind of realized that like, like I was talking to my fiance, , recently about, I was just like, I. I'm not doing any coplay for me anymore. Every time I'm fixing up costing or making something, it's from a company and it's just like, I still love that I do it, but I realized, I was like, I haven't done something for me [00:28:00] in so long.

So I actually started a list of, , things that I wanna do for myself. Mm-hmm. And I wanna make it a point to go back and do that. 'cause I feel like I just kind of. Just threw myself all into the business and I was like, I, and it's also like I love Disney, I love superhero and I love this, but I want to do one that's completely not for the business 'cause of that.

So I'm like, I've struggled with that for sure.

    Yeah. And

Brennan: it's something I'm working on. Okay. It's kind of finding the balance. Mm-hmm. So it's tough for sure, which is start to blend and still enjoy it, but. Also have business side. Did that struggle come recently to you? No, I feel like it was kind of, since I started I just, 'cause I just jumped in.

I see. And , I actually feel like now after four years , in August, it's four years since I bought, bought the company.

. I'm just now starting to feel like I have a grasp on it.

I finally feel like I have control and I know what I'm doing, running a business. So it was like tough to jump into and just be like, let me just figure out how to run a company.

Yeah. And I never, never done anything like that before. So I know how, I know how to like [00:29:00] work out costumes and I can sew, I can sell wigs, but the business end.

Really kind of. Threw me for a loop. Yeah. So it was a kind of the whole time, and now that I finally feel like I'm catching a grass

now I feel like I'm okay. I need to make sure I take the time to do things for me.

Jules (2): Okay. So that makes sense. 'cause before you never ran in business. Mm-hmm. So you never know like the ins and outs of what goes on behind to own your business. Yeah. Like all the bookwork, all of the, , little details that you miss.

    Yeah. Mm-hmm. It's a lot.

Brennan: It's a lot. And I knew when I wanted to, I knew it would be a lot. But it's more than I thought.

Jules (2): Yeah. Yeah. Do you have help that you could delegate that kind of stuff too?

Brennan: So that's another thing too. As soon as I started, I was like, as soon as I don't have my business loan, yeah. I wanna pay an assistant.

    Jules (2): Yeah.

Brennan: And I actually have two people that I've already kind of started delegating to. Nice. Now that my loan's almost up.

    Jules (2): Okay.

Brennan: And so before I just couldn't afford it, paying the loan and running business. , But. I would always plan to. So I was like kind of going crazy and then, but knowing I had a light at the end of the tunnel, [00:30:00] once that's done, I can have help.

So I already have, , I have that kind of just barely starting.

    Jules (2): Okay.

Brennan: Which is like gonna be great. 'cause then I won't, I'll have a little more time for myself. I won't feel so wound up all the time. Yeah.

Jules (2): Because you need that time for yourself and you need that time to like recharge and like be creative.

Yeah. And , I was talking to a. On my recent podcast, , Nina, , she has her own business too, and she does like jewelry wrapping. Oh, cool. And so what she does when she's in that kind of stump, where it's like, I haven't created for myself in a long time. . I'm feeling like I need to, is like she'll do something else.

Like instead of making jewelry, she'll like do pottery. Is that something that you find as well for yourself that. It's not always cosplaying and something else that might help you, like kind of relax when you do have that time to wind down.

Brennan: I like that. I don't, I feel like I haven't really done that, but I like the idea of it and I've,, I feel like I, I haven't done that, but I have seen that like sometimes like the cosplay, I want to do the ones for me, but sometimes like I need to get out of that.

    Yeah.

Brennan: So I definitely feel like that would be a good way for me to go about it. Yeah. To do something different. That's. [00:31:00] I still live up, but now I have to create something that's not ever gonna be a part of my business. But, , yeah, something really different. I haven't, I haven't done that, but that is a good Yeah.

Way to go about it, I think because I love to be creative. Yeah. Yeah. And I think I will get to the point where I can be more cosplay for me. Mm. But right now , it's been hard for me to separate the two

Jules (2): FI hope that you're able to find that Yeah. When like you're able to delegate more

when you're able to like, take a step back just a little bit. Yeah. So you can have your time. 'cause Yes, I'm sure like going through like four years of just go, go, go. Mm-hmm. Always 24 7. Just kind of like making sure you're, you know, staying like afloat. Yeah. , Is really draining and tiring. Yeah. And you feel like probably a shell of yourself sometimes.

Yeah. So having that time of being able to. Spring back to you is like, I hope you're able to get there and to do that because that's so, so

Brennan: important. It is, and I, yeah, I feel like I've always kind of knew that, but I just knew like, could I, as you should always like. Take care of yourself first, but like the past few years, I was like, I know I should, but like, I can't, like, yeah.

I have to just get things going. Mm-hmm. And now I'm like, but [00:32:00] it's always been on my mind. And now I'm at a point where I'm able to, and I'm looking forward to putting things off of my plate to like take, I used to work out all the time. I used to cook a lot, and I, I'm excited to start doing that again.

Yeah. And just like taking care of myself a little more. And I was, even during it, I wasn't. I kept reminding myself like not to be angry at myself for not doing the things I was since I'm, I was like, I'm not, I have this hump to get over and I could see the end in sight and I was like, I'm not. I can see.

I'm just like, it's hard right now. Yeah. But I know that once that's done, I'm gonna get back to and take care of myself

Jules (2): and it's good you have that like end date, you know? Yeah. That, that time where it's like, I know it's coming and so it, it keeps you pushing forward. Mm-hmm. Because I'm sure like I actually hit my laptop.

I'm sure. Like if you didn't, you probably still keep being going crazy. Yeah. I feel like I would

Brennan: be going insane. Yeah, absolutely. I would just, like, if there was no end insight, I think I would just be, I would've given that,

Jules (2): do you know how much longer you have to be in,

Brennan: Sometime in the fall, winter.

I forget exactly what, so close. So close.

Jules (2): Oh my God. Yay. I know. I'm so excited. [00:33:00] I'm so excited for you team to finally be able to like breathe. Yeah,

Brennan: I'm, I'm so excited too. And like yeah. I've already got, like I said, the two people lined up who are going to be helping me. Mm-hmm. And large trust and who know the company, so, yeah.

Jules (2): Yeah. It's exciting. I'm so excited for you. You have to, uh, lemme know how it goes after. I will. Definitely. I know it's. I'll check in on me too. Make sure making sure that you are doing that stuff. Yes. Okay. Like whatcha are doing for you? Yes. There's actually this app, it's called Finch. Have you heard of it?

Brennan: I have fi. You do? Me too. I love it. Oh, can you be friends?

    Jules (2): Yes.

Brennan: I I found it in like November. Yeah. Yeah. And I go around every single day and like right now, like I'll add on like something, but I keep it like the very simple ones, like, just like my hardest one sometimes is just b. Yes, is one of my goals.

Yep. And I'm like, I'll realize I checked on all these things and I'm like, Jess B does it. And I'm like, how? I can't just like sit by myself for a second and relax. Yeah. But it reminds me of it and help reminds me to take deep breaths and stuff. So, yeah. No, I have to. I love it. And like it takes having this little fake [00:34:00] bird to like be like, I wanna him a new hat for me to take care of myself.

    Yeah. Yeah.

Jules (2): I love it. I love it. I love Finch. I just started using it. I'm on day like 40. Yeah, and I almost missed a day though. I was like, oh my God, I'm so sad. I like missed a day, but it was because it was my first one and able to like resign, like keep my streak going. Okay. And so. I didn't know about it.

And then one of my friends was telling, like, I saw it. I'm like, what is that? And so I love that. There's like little things that I could Yeah. You know, you could do like take, just be, I have one like take fish oils, like I just added that one today because I keep forgetting.

Brennan: And she, I take vitamins online. Yeah. So I have like just some general. Little row of vitamins I should be taking and

    Yes. Yeah.

Brennan: Have to remind me. Because sometimes I also like, I'm very much like if I don't see it, I don't remember. Yes. So like I'm have vitamins, but if I'm not looking at it, I forget. Yes.

So having it on there, I'm like, oh yeah. And it's better than just a to-do list because a to-do list, so I just kind of forget to look at. But like I have a little bird who I have to check

Jules (2): in. Yes. And then I'll remember. And what's [00:35:00] really fun about the app too, is that the bird goes on like adventure. Yeah.

So adventure is something that you learn like. The last one, my favorite was, uh, the bird just found out about Taylor Swift. Oh yeah. And I like Taylor Swift and I'm like, oh, like it's singing the rest of the song. Yeah. And it's like, oh, the bird loves Taylor Swift. And then the bird like, doesn't like pretzels.

'cause I was like, you should eat it. It's good. And they're like,

    Brennan:

    Jules (2): don't

Brennan: like it. We had one too, I think it was frozen. Like it was like, yes, I have that one too, like frozen. I was like, oh wow. Okay. No, I was like singing, let it go. And I like made a comment and it was like. They dislike Frozen. I was like,

    Jules (2): okay.

That's funny because on mine, I, I used sing, like finishing the song. She's like, I like frozen. I said,

Brennan: like, it my, I don't know if it's like how you react, like what you say. Yeah,

    Jules (2): probably. Yeah.

Brennan: But it's so fun. Yes. I'll have to add you on there. Yes. I love that. I have one

Jules (2): friend on there and sign it too, so.

Oh, really? I won't add you. Yeah. Yes, , my friend Christie, I, shout out Christie. Hey, , she introduced me to that app and she's like, my only friend. But I love that seeing like, hey, like, you know, Christie says hello.

Mm-hmm. Or like, here's a little hug, [00:36:00] here's a little like Yeah. That's a nice little thing of like, thinking of you as well too. Yeah. , I can't wait to be friends, so. Yay. Yes. It's a, it's such a fun app. I've, oh. If you are like thinking about wanting to be part of like this app, like audience listening, , I'll link it down below too.

It's really fun. It's really sweet. It helps you

Brennan: take care of yourself. You can like, , you can become friends with people. Yeah, it's just fun. It's like a little gig that helps you. Yeah. Take care of yourself. It's,

Jules (2): that's exactly like what it is. The hardest thing for me too though, is , working out because I have set for like Tuesday, Thursday, and I'm like, oh yeah, I know.

I'm like, but no. Okay. I'm glad that you have that. 'cause I was gonna mention that that's a good, yeah. That's a good app for you to find yourself like Yeah. You know? Well, and

Brennan: like the one that's like, the goal I added recently is just fee. Yeah. Which I realized I didn't realize how much I wasn't doing that for myself.

    Mm-hmm.

Brennan: So doing that, and then I have the, the one I think it usually does for when you start is like, takes your breaths. Yeah. And so like, I remind myself to take three, breath it. There's like, I take a stretch break [00:37:00] and so those little things like, calm me down. Yep. Take a, take a breather. And it's, it's been really helpful for me to be like, yeah.

Even if it's just a moment, like, and I'll sit there and I'll be like, just be, and I was like, have I relaxed today? No. And I'm like, maybe I should chill for a minute. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, it's, it is. Like, it's been really good for that. I love it.

Jules (2): Good. I'm so glad. Yeah. I'm so glad you have something like that to help you.

Mm-hmm. Yeah. That just makes me so happy. 'cause I was like, I don't know anyone that is like on finch except for Christie and now like we could go on little adventures because I'll send her like, you have your little bird friends going together. It's so cute. I, I'm like, I'm in New York right now for mine.

Oh, nice. And I like see us like hanging out in New York, like Right. Eating a pretzel or whatever. It's like, it's so cute. So cute.

Brennan: It's so cute. I can't wait to see you guys. And I'm like. I'm bad at sometimes at like. Consistently staying with things. Mm-hmm. Like, I'll be, if find an interest and I fall out, but I'm like, I've been doing it since November.

Wow. Regularly. Okay. Like, and I'm like, I still love it. I still check in every day I wake up, I'm like, okay, let check in. Like finish. Yeah.

Jules (2): I love that. It's so, oh, that's so exciting. Yes. I'm only [00:38:00] on like, day 44. Yeah. I think. But it's, it, I, I am probably woke up be like that too. Yeah. I love it. It's so cute.

Yay. Okay. I got really off track. Kind of off track. Not really. I know, but it's still such a fun app. It's, it makes me happy everyone. Gift bitch. Yeah. So cute. It makes me happy. At first you're like, what the fuck is this? And you're like, I don't understand it. I'm confused. Once you get into it, you're like, oh, and it's free, but you can get a paid version.

Yeah. , But I have the free one because Yeah. I, yeah.

Okay. I think. All righty. . So one of the last questions is, what advice would you give to other cosplayers who want to turn their passion into a business?

Brennan: Yeah, so, I actually wrote down things for this because I just like, oh, things to like tell, tell people who wanted to do something.

Yeah. 'cause I remember I was thinking about things to say today and I was [00:39:00] like, this one specifically, I was like, I feel like I'm gonna forget stuff. Yes. , So I was like, things that I wanna say, like to people who, 'cause people have asked me like, oh, I could do something like that. . One is like if you have a cos, if you're a COS player and you want to run a business, , a big thing is like knowing you're worth and your value and value your own time.

Because I see so many people who do stuff and like, it's just by the time you finish the work you need to, , communicate with quiets. Mm-hmm. To create costume, to put in the effort to make something happen. Uh, , The things I'm seeing, it just, is that worth your time? If you're doing business well for business, some people do charities and stuff, which is great, but for business like.

Value yourself higher. So like, I like had to up my price a couple times 'cause I was like, this isn't worth my time. I don't feel like I'm paying myself. , Especially like a performer. And then also the back end, I was like, I feel like I'm not paying myself for any of the office work, so I had to like up my prices.

So like, that's really important. I feel like people are like, well I don't wanna charge too much. Like, you should make sure like you are getting paid.

So that's important. . Also being aware that like things are gonna [00:40:00] change if you decide to take constantly to a business is not always gonna be fun.

And it's not bad. Like, I'm so happy I do what I do, like I wouldn't change it, but it's just be aware that it's not going to be just fun all the time. It's gonna become work. my grandad always, 'cause he was an artist

    that

Brennan: he always said, um, do what you love and you'll never work good in of life. And I always love that.

And I always wanna do something that I love too. Mm-hmm. And I'm like, I see that definitely. 'cause I'm like, I. In a way feel like that, but I definitely work really hard. Right. So you'll still be doing what you love? Like it's, I can't make myself doing anything else or having a nine to five.

    Mm-hmm.

Brennan: But it's definitely, it is, it is gonna be different if you do.

Yeah. So just be aware, like if you don't want that fun, passionate, to alter slightly

Then like, it might not be exactly. Something that you should go into if you don't wanna ruin that fund of it, then just a thought, I guess. , And then we kind of talked about this as like delegating.

It's something that like I knew I had to do and now like it's starting to happen.

I'm so excited. And then also like, stepping out of it. I know that like [00:41:00] I get too into things. So if you own a business. I look at it too closely, and I know I do. So I'll look at a problem and I get fixated on it and somebody else will be like, oh. And they're just like, Nope, you're thinking about it too much.

So I feel like just having somebody to delegate to and pulling yourself out and trusting somebody else to take care of it. And if it's not done, how exactly how you would do it, that's okay.

But then specifically for cos players too, , I guess that's kind of more just general business. Yeah.

But for cosplayers, it specifically is. You can do character visits like I kind of do, but also like there's so many other things that folks, some people don't think about. You can, if you wanna get, start a business with Coplay as a background If you can sell and create costumes, sell costumes. If you can make props like design props 3D pair and paint them.

Mm-hmm. If you're good at wigs, you can style wigs at Zelda. Like there's more, I feel like people always think like, oh, I cosplay, I'm gonna go as this character, but like. The creating of it is, I feel like an option that a lot of people don't think about. . But I see, I see tons of people who sell wigs for like, where you good money and it's a [00:42:00] lot of work to make really nice wigs.

So I, I feel like that's something like if you, if you're a cosplay and you are interested, like think about the creating as well as a business option. Mm-hmm. I guess,

Jules (2): yeah, no, thank you for that. 'cause there's so many good, like, little, , tidbits that you have in there because some, some people don't think about.

It's like, oh yeah, I wanna do this, but. They don't realize all the extra work that's put into it. Yeah. Like with, , you said your grandpa.

What he said, like if you, 'cause I've heard that phrase before too. Do something what you love and you don't work a day in your life. Mm-hmm. Like that is amazing.

Everyone wants to do that, but at the same time it's like so hard because you're like, I have to do all the spec and stuff.

Brennan: Even if you. If your thing is treating cops constantly doing that. Mm-hmm. If you had someone else pay to do the backend stuff, you still have a deadline in a place you have to be like, it still somewhat becomes work.

Yes. And it's fun. It's fun work. It's a fun job. Yeah. But it's just, it does change a little bit.

Jules: No, yeah. I'm totally, and also too, like, , the last thing you said too, though, like with, . Being a cosplay, [00:43:00] there's so many other avenues you could do. Mm-hmm. Instead of like doing like cosplay and like, as a whole like mm-hmm.

As a job. Doing the stuff. , Kinda like behind the scenes, like the wigs and Yeah. And the costumes and like all that other stuff too. It's a really unique idea. 'cause I'm sure a lot of people don't think about that. Like, yeah.

Brennan: And I didn't either before and now that I'm into it, I follow lots of different performers and artists and entertainers. And I started to see that. And I see people, like even the people who like I I, I make some wigs, I purchase some wigs and I'm learning to like be better, but like I see the people who make them and I'm like, I didn't even think about that. Yeah. So like my, um, my sister helps me style wigs.

We both went to a cosmetology school together. Oh, cool. And so we, she only style wigs. And we've talked about like once, like everything kind of settled, maybe also starting aside. We selling business.

I love that. But I never

Brennan: would've thought about it as just a cosplay. Yeah,

    yeah, yeah. And

Brennan: now I'm like, oh, like you could do that.

Or like, if people know how to sew or make cool crops, like people will buy those. Yeah. So it's just, you don't think about it.

Jules: No. It's really nice that you brought that out though. 'cause like I'm sure someone's probably listening and it's like, [00:44:00] oh, I wanna know like what it's like. Like I might be wanting to do like what you're doing kind of thing. But then it's like if they realize that it's too much for them mm-hmm. It's like, oh wait, but there's. All this other stuff that I can do within the cosplay realm. Yeah. Which is really cool.

Brennan: Yeah. And another thing too, like if you, I have a company that has like 150 characters or something, right? Yeah. So some people are like, well I have like these couple of contemplates, I could do this.

And it's like, you could book here and there, but like, which is good, go for it. Like I'm all about that. And like if you build a name off a character that you really like a more of an impersonator. Mm-hmm. You could do that. But like a lot of people, they want a wide array of options. Mm-hmm. So like. I think some people are like, well, I have this costume.

I could do this, and just like, no, that you could still do it, but maybe build up some options before you start. Yeah. You know, like even a very small amount, if you got like five core Disney princesses mm-hmm. Then you could start that and be like, I do these five princesses. Mm-hmm. Instead of just like, I'm also, and that's it.

Yeah. Like that's not really. Gonna go [00:45:00] anywhere like that quickly. But if you start with a solid, like small base Yeah. Then that will kind of give you a good head start. I think That's right. And people will take you more seriously.

Jules (2): Okay. That makes sense. Yeah. Because if you just have one and I'm like, I wanna do this, it's like, yeah.

We don't really need that. Yeah, we need like more like we need more options. We need like going to kid, like a kid and candy shop. We need like a little bit of options here and there. Yeah.

Brennan: Yeah. And like I said, like even like you can always grow. Everyone starts somewhere. Yeah. But at least have like, I just think it's good to have just a couple options before you kind of just start to start, I guess.

    Yeah. Like, yeah.

Jules (2): No, perfect. Thank you. You. Yeah. , What advice would you have given yourself when you were younger to who you are now?

Brennan: if I could tell myself something. , I don't know. I feel like even just like me, I feel like I was always trying to find like what I wanna do, but I always wanted to be creative.

Mm-hmm. But I also was wanting to be like stable.

I feel like I would've kind of told myself like that you can like be creative and own has no business like that. You can, it's not just like a side thing. Yeah. And like I see, like I kind of fell into like my [00:46:00] possession. But I feel like I was always like, well that would be nice, but that might not happen.

Yeah. You know, but like, just be like, no, like you can do this. Like, you just have to find the right way to do it. Yes. So I feel like I took a long time to try and be like. It's not that realistic. . So I'm telling myself like, no, you can do it. You just have to figure out how and like work really hard.

    Yeah.

Brennan: So like, no, be creative and like make what you like. Work for you.

Jules: Mm-hmm. And now at you, now you're owning Las Vegas character parties. Yeah. And I think you're doing a pretty good job. Thank you. Even if you don't think so. I think you are. Thank you. I appreciate it. Of course. Thank you so much for coming on this podcast.
